How we built Arcapita

How we helped a premier Islamic asset management firm build a secure platform for managing investments that combines mobile, web, admin applications, and seamless Salesforce and KYC integrations.

Building a unified investment management system

The platform we developed covers a mobile app, a web application, and an internal administrative panel.

Mobile app
We built the mobile app using Kotlin Multiplatform, reusing core business logic across iOS and Android to speed up development while keeping a native look and feel on each platform.

Admin panel
The admin panel is developed using a standardized frontend template and connected to backend services. It gives Arcapita control over content and system management.

Web platform
Since the platform relies on document-heavy workflows and structured financial data, we chose ReactJS for the web application to deliver a responsive interface for KYC files, investment reports, and more.

Shaping the cross-platform experience

The design process began with prototypes, where we agreed on user flows, visual hierarchy, and interface components. We also created high-fidelity mockups to test usability before implementation.

As part of the redesign, we also addressed inconsistencies in content rendering between web and mobile. The mobile app initially used web views to display admin panel content, which caused formatting issues. We replaced these with native Kotlin UI components and simplified the editor in the admin panel, reducing styling options. This brought visual consistency and reinforced the platform’s technical foundation.

Mapping the investor journey

To ensure alignment from day one, our Business Analyst worked closely with Arcapita’s stakeholders to map the complete investor lifecycle.

Through workshops and discovery sessions, we defined two core user roles: investors and managers. Here’s what the investor journey looks like:

Managers oversee investor portfolios and maintain direct communication, since investments of this scale are typically finalized offline. For the same reason, we did not integrate any payment systems into the platform.

Implementing a secure and compliant infrastructure

Security is a core requirement for an investment management platform, so we had to build an architecture that meets strict compliance and regulatory standards.

Reliable biometric authentication

When implementing iOS biometric authentication, we discovered a mismatch between the mobile app and the backend. We traced the root cause to outdated backend encryption, aligned both sides to current standards, and stabilized the verification process.

Custom KYC camera implementation

The native iOS camera functionality did not provide the level of control required to meet KYC document capture standards. That’s why we implemented a customized camera solution with precise control over framing, capture behavior, and image quality.

Secure document handling

To meet file security requirements and protect sensitive investor data, we implemented a two-stage Azure Blob Storage architecture. Uploaded documents are first stored in a quarantine container, scanned for viruses, and only then transferred to secure storage.

Technology stack

The core challenge was integrating third-party systems—Salesforce, Twilio, SendGrid, and Faceki KYC—while resolving real issues like API edge cases and encryption mismatches. This required a custom KYC camera and a secure, two-stage Azure Blob Storage pipeline to protect sensitive investor data.
